FISH FRY CATERING - AT IT'S BEST!

This is the ultimate fish fry catering experience. Frying fresh, local, in-season fish is our passion. Southern California sits on one of the world’s most productive and consistent fisheries. Crispy, flaky, perfectly fried, fresh catch is one of coastal life’s finest offerings. We stand ready to help you eat your share.

Feeling adventurous? Ask about invasive and nuisance species cookouts. You can help save the ocean just by eating the right type of fish!

Working directly with small boat fishing crews to bring the very best, fresh seafood to the table, there is always something crowd pleasing & delicious, in-season and on the menu. Local Cod, Halibut, Bass, and even Rock fish. If fresh water is more your speed, we fry-up Catfish and Tilapia too.

    LOCAL SEASONAL FRESH CATCH

This is our most popular fish fry. Nothing gets our team going like picking up fresh catch of the day for an afternoon cookout. If it is flaky white fish caught locally today - we are in.

    TRADITIONAL FISH & CHIPS

We fry Cod, Haddock and Halibut in beer batter that highlights the flaky & slightly sweet flavor of the fried fish, served with thick-cut fries, malt vinegar, old bay tartar sauce and tons of lemons.

    LOUISIANA STYLE PO' BOYS

Our absolute favorite way to serve fried shellfish in on a classic Po' boy sandwich. Crusty French bread, piles of crispy fried shrimp or the classic fried oysters, lettuce, tomatoes and our signature spicy ‘LA Sauce’.

    EAT INVASIVE SPECIES FISH

Some fish are actually better off on the plate. A variety of factors lead to species being introduced where they don't naturally belong hurting the native environment. Thankfully many are delicious!

    FARM-RAISED AMERICAN CATFISH

With catfish, farm-raised means a milder and 'less muddy' flavor. Aficionados appreciate the stronger taste but we find most diners prefer the flavor of farm-raised Catfish. Wild flatheads are also available.

    FRIED FISH TACOS

This is Southern California, if you are not eating fish tacos, you're doing it wrong. Fried fresh catch wrapped it in flour tortillas with Baja-style crema, cabbage slaw, red or green salsa, cilantro and lime.

    HOW WE HANDLE SERVING SIDES

Depending on the type of fish, we fry in either San Diego’ s best craft beer batter or a seasoned stone-ground corn meal crust. We serve plenty fresh lemon, house made pickles & your choice of 2 signature dipping sauces.

Every Reel & Ranch cookout includes 2 gourmet side dishes paired perfectly to compliment your fish fry. In addition, we offer a wide variety of premium sides that can be added on to any meal.

    RAINBOW CARROTS

Wood-fire grilled heirloom carrots with curry, Greek yogurt, fresh lemon, parsley and pistachios.

    PORK BELLY COLLARD GREENS

Similar to spinach but in the same family as cabbage and broccoli. Braised with hickory smoked pork belly.

    SWEET CORN HUSH PUPPIES

Fried savory cornmeal with buttermilk, pepper jack cheese and whole sweet corn kernels.

    MEXICAN STREET CORN

Fire roasted and off-the-cob with paprika, chili, lime, cotija cheese and our house cilantro crema.

    TOMATOES, CUCUMBERS & ONIONS

Our take on a traditional summer favorite with basil and red wine Italian vinaigrette.

    HAND-CUT FRENCH FRIES

Cali Russets. We prefer waffle or bistro cut but can do any style. Sea salt and Heinz jalapeno ketchup.

    MIX AND MATCH OPTIONS

Some of the very best cookouts mix more than one main course. A little bit of this and a little bit of that usually equals a whole lot of yummy fun. Create a custom menu that is a perfect fit for your event. Reel & Ranch offers a variety of cookout options that are all sure to please every crowd.

    FREQUENT QUESTIONS ANSWERED

We have been fish fry catering for a long time. After many cookouts, we have learned that each one is a little different. We all have different tastes, different visions and different needs. For most cookouts, we present meals in a serve yourself ‘better-than-buffet’ style.  Action stations are attended by our chefs who can help serve, suggest & answer questions while guests select what they want from the offerings displayed.

Are we missing something? Want to make a modification? If you have something else in mind – that’s great! We love to be creative and love to collaborate. Let’s hear your ideas. It’s very likely that we can make it happen!

How much does a fish fry cookout really cost?

Cookouts vary in price depending on season, how many people will be feed, what types of items or additional courses are selected, and a few other site and service-related factors. In order to ensure we are giving you the best & most accurate pricing possible we should talk specifics, let's chat!

What kind of area or space is needed to host a fish fry cookout?

We have found, where there is a will there is a way. We use a variety of set-ups and cooking techniques to pull off a great cookout in nearly any venue or cooking area. For an ‘On-site’ cookout an open outdoor cooking area is required. Depending on the venue our team can help determine if an ‘On-site’, ‘Catered’, or Hybrid style cookout would work best for properly catering you event.

How far in advance should I reserve my date?

Wedding receptions and other large events typically book 6-12 months in advance. Smaller cookouts book a bit closer to the event date. Weekends, holidays and other popular dates often book quickly… some more than 12 months out. If you want to plan a cookout, we should talk ASAP. The more time we have to plan, the better! Reach out today to discuss possibilities and availability!

What happens if it rains on the day of my event?

Reel & Ranch cookouts are typically rain or shine events. This is real, slow food catering and once we get started it is impossible to stop the process. Thankfully, here in Southern California, a whole day of rain is something we don’t often need to worry about. Our cooking and service areas are covered and do just fine in case of any passing sprinkles!

Does every cookout include a free 'first taste' or 'last bite'?

At all 'On-site' cookouts we prepare both a special first taste while the food is being prepared and also a sweet dessert bite to say, ‘Thank you,’ once the meal is through! For 'Catered' cookouts, hosts choose either a first taste -or- last bite. 'Drop-off' cookouts are yummy and convenient but are not particularly conducive to serving first taste or last bite courses so neither are included.
